I just had two new clients come over with a request I‘ve never gotten before. They are getting married next January in New Zealand and are having their dream wedding. As they talked, I started to get a good look at their jewelry. There was something about it that looked familiar. Two things really caught my attention. The first was the ring with the marquise cut emerald in the middle on the man’s index finger. The second was the pendant necklace hanging from the lady’s neck. Once I looked at it for a while, I realized where it was from.
After talking for a while, they finally got to their request. They were having a Lord of the Rings themed wedding and they wanted me to make their clothes. They showed me pictures of what they wanted. There were three outfits for each of them. One for an engagement party next month, the other for the rehearsal dinner, and the last one for the day of their wedding. They also wanted me to make the outfits for the bride’s maids and groom’s men, but they didn’t have any special requests for those because I’d have to work with each of them to make their outfits since they will all have their own character. The bride and groom are obviously going to have an Aragorn and Arwen inspired look. Come to think of it, they did look like them only they were in business clothes.
Before they left, I asked if I could get a closer look at their jewelry. They did showed them to me, and I was absolutely fascinated. Their jewelry had been specially made. It wasn’t those cheap (or somewhat cheap) replicas that you could order online or from a catalogue. They had spent thousands of dollars to have them made. The man’s ring (Aragorn’s ring) was made out of platinum (and a tiny bit of gold for what I think were flames or something but I didn’t ask) and had a real emerald in the middle. The lady’s necklace (Arwen’s necklace) was also made out of platinum and the pendent had big diamonds on it. The details on the both of them were amazing.
I have not decided whether or not to take this job. I’m going to their place on Friday morning to give them my response. They did warn me that this could turn out to be a lot of work because almost everyone invited to their wedding was planning on being dressed appropriately for their themed ceremony and I’d probably end up being the one that clothed everyone. Yes, this could (and most likely will) be a lot of work if I accept this unique job, but this could also mean a lot of $$$$$. The idea of dressing a whole wedding (bride, groom, court, guests, the whole enchilada) does scare me. I don’t want an army of hobbits (and I don’t say this to be rude in any way) to attack me if I don’t get their clothes done on time (he explained to me that one of the reasons he became a Lord of the Rings fan because he has a few little people in his family).
Since I am still debating whether or not I should do this (and because we both have the day off), I’m having a Lord of the Rings marathon with Indy.
